for the last year almost this has been unusable do to having to restart plex 20 times during pmm running. would it be possible to add a way for it to automatically send a restart command to plex when it hangs for x amount of time due to plex db busy.

As Yozora outlined, you are best off to implement some performance updates to Plex. This is not a PMM issue per se. there is no api call to restart Plex. PMM does not have a resume so that would also be an issue. I have seen Plex db sleep when PMM is not doing anything and when we are not even watching media…

As a side-note, if you're constantly having issues with Plex when PMM is running then I would suggest you do some troubleshooting of your Plex database as this is not normal behaviour.

We have many users who daily drive PMM without this issue.

Whilst I'm not sure if this is technically possible or not, I think this raises a couple things.
Worth noting I'm not a technical expert on this, so this is all theoretical.
1) Would Plex accept a restart request via the API if it is already having issues - we have previously seen timeouts of Plex not responding to requests because it is doing its own thing
2) How would PMM manage this?
Plex DB is busy
PMM sends a restart request
Plex restarts
Upon restart, Plex does its startup maintenance tasks
PMM sends a restart request again because Plex DB is busy again doing its maintenance tasks
It seems like this could cause endless reboot issues.
